The world-renowned Vienna Boys Choir returns to UC Berkeley for a special performance celebrating the 200th birthday of composer Johann Strauss Jr. The concert, titled “Strauss For Ever,” takes place this Sunday, November 16 at 3 p.m. at Zellerbach Hall.
Presented by Cal Performances as part of its “Vocal Celebration / Family” series, the event showcases Strauss Jr.’s timeless compositions through the pure, soaring voices of one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious boys’ choirs. The program includes familiar favorites such as The Blue Danube, Tales from the Vienna Woods, and a lively mix of polkas.
Founded in 1498, the Vienna Boys Choir has performed across the globe, preserving Austria’s rich musical heritage. The group, made up of boys aged 9 to 14 from various countries, is known for its crystal-clear tone, precision, and spirited performances. The choir has been singing choral arrangements of Strauss’s music since the 1920s.
“Strauss For Ever” offers audiences a unique opportunity to hear the signature waltz and polka sounds of Vienna reimagined through youthful voices, serving as an homage to a composer who helped define his city’s cultural identity.
