Museo Italo Americano at Fort Mason hosts artisan market Dec. 6 & 7

Museo Italo Americano, the first museum in the United States devoted exclusively to Italian

and Italian-American art and culture, is hosting a holiday artisan market at San Francisco’s historic Fort Mason Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7.

The Mercatino di Natale, or Italian Christmas Market, welcomes local vendors and artists selling Italian food, fashion, jewelry, art and one-of-a-kind crafts. Proceeds from the Mercatino benefit the Museo’s historical and cultural programs as well as participating Italian and Italian-American artists, and serves as a unique holiday shopping experience. The two-day event is held in the museum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on December 6, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 7.

Museo Italo Americano was founded in 1978 above a café in the city’s North Beach neighborhood, San Francisco’s Italian-American enclave.The museum’s mission is to research, collect and display works by Italian and Italian-American artists, and to promote language courses, lectures and educational programs. Through its permanent collection, historical archive and community programs like Mercatino, the museum aims to preserve and share the rich heritage of Italian-Americans for Bay Area residents.
