Linda Beach Tot Lot opens on Friday

Date:

After years of planning, the Linda Beach Tot Lot will open at 10 a.m. Friday, November 14. Mayor Betsy Andersen along with other city staff will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Tot Lot.

The project cost $400,000, with 75% funded by the City’s Facilities Capital Fund, and the remaining 25% from a donation by the Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF). Members of the foundation will be in attendance for the ceremony and will present their $100,000 donation.

Patty Dunlap, president of PBF, said she is extremely excited for the opening of the Tot Lot.

“PBF is committed to enhancing public spaces throughout Piedmont, including projects that serve children. Safe and friendly play spaces have never been more crucial, as many children are drawn to screens beginning at an early age. Piedmont parks provide a gentle antidote by encouraging connection and creativity outdoors. And it’s not just the kids who benefit – adults need outdoor play time, too.”

Dunlap believes tot lots have a positive impact on the community,

“The first word that comes to mind is joy. Most people – children for sure – come to a park full of anticipation and energy, knowing they are in for a good time. There is no greater joy than watching a child fully immersed in imaginative play – coasting down a slide, climbing a tree, or trying to touch the sky from a swing. PBF wants to ensure that our parks help create that priceless joy.”

The PBF has an extensive history of donating to the creation of tot lots. “PBF has financially contributed to play areas within every major park in the City of Piedmont, including Dracena, the Main Park, and Hampton s Field,” said Dunlap.

Depending on the weather for the weekend, the grand opening is set for the Linda Beach Tot Lot. Soon, kids will play until their hearts’ content.
